Assessing Team Wellbeing
Diversity & Inclusion, Belonging, & Safety
Studies show that teams that pursue a mission and strategy of diversity, inclusion, belonging and safety outperform competitors by 35%. However, most struggle to assess the levels of inclusion, belonging and safety that individuals within the team achieve, even when diversity levels are high.
ABSENCE = UNDERACHIEVERS
Without a sense of inclusion, belonging and safety, individuals will underachieve compared to their more secure and included counter-parts who feel as though they belong.
WHY SHOULD THIS MATTER?
A strong sense of belonging and safety will:
- increase empowerment
- improve satisfaction,
- strengthen commitment
- promote citizenship behavior
- clear the way for everyone on the team to compete and achieve their highest potential.
Teams that incorporate belonging and safety into their culture show:
- 56% increase in individual performance
- 167% increase in team promoters
- 50% decrease in quitting

“The process of completing the survey was as seamless as it could get. All of our players easily accessed the questions from the provided link and it never interrupted the team's daily routine. As a coach, we are all creatures of habit so the fact that our routine wasn't disrupted was a plus.
I believe the DIBS program and what Shelley Till and her staff have created is a must for every program. It allows you to be in the locker room without being so intrusive. We all know that you have to win the locker room before you can win on the court and the DIBS program helps facilitate for you in a clear and precise way." ~ John Smith, Head Coach Cal Poly Men's Basketball
